In the local area of Austin, Texas there are a few different subsidized local housing options. One example is EnterpriseCommunity.org - they provide solutions for affordable housing nationwide and were founded by Jim Rouse. This group helps invest in local housing options to provide cheap rentals and housing for local communities throughout the US.

The Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation (TSAHC) is a self-funded not for profit that has the charter of promoting public health, safety and welfare by providing low income apartments and housing throughout Texas. This group was created in 1994 and since then has helped to provide housing for many Texans. TSAHC also is an approved loan originator/seller for home loans in conjunction with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the VA and Wells Fargo Funding. There are grants avaialable today for the Texas Foundations Fund for Hurrican relief for qualifying non profits.

There are transitional housing options in the Austin, Texas area for people looking to get off the streets and into to a warm, safe environment for a night or a couple of nights of rest. One of them is the Casa Marianella - it was started in 1986 and has been providing refuge for people in the Austin area - priority is given to political refugees and they can house 20-30 people on any given night.

Austinhomeless.org was started in 1990 and is a Community Partnership for the homeless - which is an organization that provides safe and low income apartments and housing for people working to get ahead. Since it's inception, this non profit has successfully allowed 500 people in the Austin area to self-sufficiency, quite a lofty achievement for this local Texas community.
